What’s the Real Difference?
Short answer: pressure washing uses high-pressure water alone, power washing is pressure washing with heated water added, and soft washing uses low pressure combined with a cleaning solution. Homeowners and even some contractors use these terms loosely, which is exactly why so many roofs and siding jobs go wrong. Here is the real difference, term by term.
Pressure Washing
High-pressure water alone, typically 3000+ PSI, with no heat and no chemical. Best for concrete, driveways, and hard non-porous surfaces that can handle force.
Power Washing
The same high pressure as pressure washing, but with heated water added. The heat helps break down grease, gum, and oil, making it common for commercial and industrial surfaces.
Soft Washing
Low pressure combined with a biodegradable cleaning solution and dwell time. The correct method for roofs, siding, stucco, and screens that pressure would damage.
